The ecological approach was little supported by the public authorities and communities when the gîte was created, but for our renovations, we wanted to make certain gestures in favour of the environment.

For the Farm, we chose solid wood and most of the time local wood: oak. We have recycled a number of elements from the old framework, old floors for lintels, inclusions and decorations. All our interior doors are made of solid oak. On the southern slope of the roof, solar panels produce hot water, but a dual energy system was needed because the solar yield is insufficient in the mid-seasons.

The 60 cm thick walls are thick enough to keep the temperature on the ground floor comfortable if the doors are not left open on hot days. We have deliberately chosen not to install an air conditioning system so as not to worsen our carbon footprint. In the same way, opening the windows on the first floor early in the morning or leaving them ajar at night helps to keep the interior cool.

As much as possible, we favour recycling old objects and furniture for our decoration.

Finally, here and there, we integrate aerators on the taps and low-energy light bulbs. The sorting of household waste is encouraged. You can also, during your stay, compost all your organic waste.
